Pomelo is abundant during the month of October until December. This year, production declined due to the El Nino phenomenon.  It was noted that production is not stable. Production of citrus plants particularly pomelo is being beset by problem like virus infestation.

Banana and mango traders are the usual market players using pomelo as fillers.  Pomelo is being transported by sack (jute), averaging 50 kilograms per sack.

For 10,000 kilograms of pomelo transport cost is estimated at P2.50 to 2.70 per kilogram or P20,000 per container van (20 FCL).  Trucking cost P4,000.00 and hauling cost P2,000.00.

2.  Export Market
Export data on pomelo showed that in 1995 and 1996, the Philippines exported minimal volume of pomelo to Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong.

Malaysia and Thailand are the major pomelo exporters in the world.  Malaysia's production occurs from January to February with their yellow variety while Thailand's green pomelo production is from June to July.

China and Hong Kong pomelos are being processed to juice.
