Land Watch Philippines Workshop, 24-25 January 2008
Balay Kalinaw, University of the Philippines,
Diliman, Quezon City
Participants
to a Land Watch Meeting held in the Philippines last 24-25 January 2008
adopted a program for advocacy detailing inter-sectoral action plans to
promote access by basic sectors in the country to land, water and other
natural resources.
The Land Watch
Philippines Intersectoral Meeting on Land and Water Access of the Rural Poor
was jointly organized by ANGOC and the Philippine Partnership for the
Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas (PhilDHRRA), the two country
focal points for Land Watch in the Philippines.
Besides
presenting the Strategy Statement, the meeting sought to validate the
Philippines Country Strategy Paper. The members of Land Watch Asia had
earlier agreed to prepare strategy paper for each country that would serve
as a tool to enhance the land campaigns of civil society advocates for
access to land. In particular, the Country Strategy Paper for the
Philippines is designed to: (a) review the policy and legal environment on
access to land and tenurial security; (b) assess past contributions and
current efforts of different sectors (government, the private sector,
donors, social movements and civil society) to address land issues; and (c)
identify opportunities, challenges and strategies in effectively addressing
issues and gaps and in advancing access to land and tenurial security of
disadvantaged land dependent users.
The
Philippines Country Strategy Paper was prepared by a working group.
